The SANDVIK COROMANT 7860844 is a CNMG-style indexable turning insert from the T-Max P series, designed for external and internal turning operations on CNC lathes and turning centers. Built from solid carbide with a CVD-applied TiCN, Al2O3, and TiN multilayer coating, this insert delivers the wear resistance and thermal stability required for medium to heavy turning applications. The 80-degree diamond (rhombic) insert shape provides a strong cutting edge geometry with a 0.79 mm corner radius, and the QM chip breaker geometry supports reliable chip control across a range of feed rates and depths of cut. Licensed machinists and CNC operators use this insert for production turning in steel and cast iron workpiece materials.
This insert is suited for turning operations on steel and cast iron components in both production shop and job-shop environments. The QM chip breaker geometry is optimized for medium-roughing passes where controlled chip evacuation is critical. The neutral hand orientation makes it compatible with standard CNMG toolholders used in right-hand turning setups. With four available cutting edges per insert, it delivers efficient cost-per-edge performance in high-volume turning applications. Typical installations involve indexable turning toolholders using clamp or screw insert-holding methods.
Designed for use in standard CNMG-style indexable turning toolholders that accept a 5/8 inch (15.88 mm) inscribed circle insert with a 0.250 inch hole diameter. Primary workpiece material is steel (ISO material code P); secondary workpiece material is cast iron (ISO material code K).
Indexable insert replacement is performed by qualified machinists or CNC operators following machine lockout and spindle stop procedures. Use the appropriate torque wrench and insert seating tool specified by the toolholder manufacturer when securing the insert via clamp or screw. Inspect the insert pocket and seating surfaces for debris or damage before indexing to a fresh cutting edge. Follow shop safety protocols and machine manufacturer guidelines for insert changes on live tooling setups.
