The SANDVIK COROMANT 7860732 is a CNMM432-PR 4425 turning insert designed for external and internal turning operations on CNC lathes and turning centers. Built from solid carbide with a CVD-applied multilayer coating of TiCN, Al2O3, and TiN, this insert delivers thermal resistance and wear protection during high-feed steel and cast iron machining. It features an 80-degree diamond shape, a 12.70 mm inscribed circle, a 0.79 mm corner radius, and a neutral hand orientation. The PR chip breaker geometry is tuned for positive chip control in general steel turning. Part of the SANDVIK COROMANT T-Max P series, this insert is installed by machinists and CNC operators in production and job-shop environments.
This insert is suited for turning applications on steel and cast iron workpieces, covering both roughing and semi-finishing passes where controlled chip evacuation is critical. The CVD coating sequence provides a hard TiCN base layer for abrasion resistance, an Al2O3 mid-layer for heat shielding, and a TiN top layer for visual wear detection. It is used in high-volume turning centers and manual lathes equipped with clamp or screw insert-holding systems. The T-Max P series is a standard platform for ISO-coded turning inserts in industrial machining operations. Two cutting edges are available per insert, reducing per-edge tooling cost in production runs.
Designed for use with CNMM-style toolholders that accept ISO code CNMM 12 04 08 inserts. Holding method is compatible with clamp and screw systems. Primary workpiece material is steel (ISO code P); secondary workpiece material is cast iron (ISO code K). Consult SANDVIK COROMANT toolholder documentation to confirm pocket fit for T-Max P series inserts.
Installation should be performed by a qualified machinist or CNC tooling technician with the machine in a safe, locked-out state. Ensure the insert pocket and seating surface are clean and free of chips before seating the insert. Use the appropriate torque wrench and manufacturer-specified clamp or screw hardware to secure the insert without over-torquing the holding mechanism. Inspect the insert after initial passes for wear indicator color change on the TiN top layer.
