The SANDVIK COROMANT 7860730 is a CNMG-style indexable turning insert in the T-Max P series, designed for external turning operations on CNC lathes and turning centers. Manufactured from solid carbide with a CVD-applied multilayer coating of TiCN, Al2O3, and TiN, this insert delivers thermal resistance and wear protection during continuous and interrupted steel cutting. The 80-degree diamond insert shape provides a strong cutting edge geometry suitable for profiling and general turning. With a 0.75-inch inscribed circle and a 0.0625-inch corner radius, this insert is suited to medium-to-heavy depths of cut. Licensed machinists and CNC operators install this insert in compatible toolholders as a direct indexed replacement when an edge is worn.
The 7860730 is primarily rated for steel workpieces (ISO material group P) and is also applicable to cast iron (ISO material group K). The T-Max P series addresses general turning demands in production machining environments, including both roughing and semi-finishing passes. The PR chip breaker geometry controls chip flow across a broad feed and depth-of-cut range, making it a practical choice for high-volume turning cells in job shops, automotive component manufacturing, and contract machining facilities.
Designed for use in CNMG-style toolholders that accept a 0.75-inch inscribed circle insert. ISO code CNMG 19 06 16-PR 4425. Compatible toolholders must support clamp or screw insert clamping methods. Primary workpiece material compatibility is steel (ISO Code P); secondary compatibility is cast iron (ISO Code K).
Insert indexing and replacement should be performed by a qualified machinist or CNC toolroom technician. Power down and lock out the machine spindle before removing or seating any insert. Use the correct torque wrench and manufacturer-specified seating procedure for the toolholder clamp or screw to ensure proper insert seating and prevent micro-movement during cutting. Inspect the insert pocket and seating surface for chips or wear before installing a new edge.
