The SANDVIK COROMANT 7860729 is a CNMG-style turning insert designed for general turning operations on CNC lathes and turning centers. This insert carries the manufacturer grade 4425 and features a multilayer CVD coating of TiCN, Al2O3, and TiN applied over a solid carbide substrate, delivering a balance of wear resistance and thermal stability at the cutting edge. It is part of the T-Max P series, which targets productive turning on steel and cast iron workpieces. The neutral hand orientation makes it suitable for right- or left-hand toolholders that accept CNMG geometry. It is installed by machinists and CNC operators in production and job-shop environments.
This insert is primarily rated for steel (ISO material code P) as the primary workpiece material and cast iron (ISO material code K) as the secondary workpiece material. The PR chip breaker geometry is intended for general-purpose finishing to medium turning passes. With a 0.75-inch inscribed circle and a 1.19 mm corner radius, it is suited to moderate depth-of-cut applications where controlled chip formation is a priority. Each insert provides 4 usable cutting edges, making it cost-efficient for high-volume turning programs.
Designed for use in toolholders accepting CNMG 19 06 12 geometry inserts. ISO code CNMG 19 06 12-PR 4425. Manufacturer catalog reference CNMG 643-PR 4425. Suitable for CNC turning centers using CNMG-style clamp or screw-lock holders targeting steel and cast iron workpiece materials.
Turning inserts are installed and indexed by qualified machinists or CNC setup technicians. Power down and lock out the machine spindle before changing inserts. Use the correct torque driver or wrench specified by the toolholder manufacturer for clamp and screw-type seats — do not overtighten or use impact tools on insert screws. Inspect the insert pocket seat and shim for damage before seating a new insert.
