The SANDVIK COROMANT 7860716 is a SNMG-style indexable turning insert in the T-Max P series, designed for external turning operations on CNC lathes and turning centers. This square-shaped carbide insert carries ISO designation SNMG 12 04 04-PM 4425 and features a multilayer CVD coating of TiCN, Al2O3, and TiN over a grade 4425 carbide substrate. The PM chip breaker geometry is engineered for finishing and medium turning on steel and cast iron. With 8 cutting edges per insert and a neutral hand configuration, this insert delivers efficient edge utilization in production turning environments. Licensed machinists and CNC operators working in job shops, production floors, and maintenance machining departments are the primary users.
This insert is suited for turning steel and cast iron workpieces in both roughing and medium-duty applications. The grade 4425 substrate and CVD multilayer coating provide wear resistance and thermal stability during continuous and interrupted cuts on P-group steels and K-group cast irons. The PM chip breaker controls chip formation across a range of feed rates, making this insert appropriate for general-purpose turning on component diameters where consistent surface finish and predictable tool life are required. It seats in standard SNMG 432 or compatible toolholders using clamp or screw holding methods.

Primary workpiece material is P-group steel; secondary workpiece material is K-group cast iron per ISO classification. Fits standard SNMG insert pockets with a 0.5000 inch inscribed circle and 5.16 mm hole diameter.
Installation is performed by qualified CNC machinists or tool-crib technicians. Power down and lock out the machine before changing inserts. Inspect the insert pocket and clamping hardware for debris or wear before seating a new insert. Follow the toolholder manufacturer torque specifications for clamping screws; do not overtighten, as this can fracture the carbide. Index to a fresh cutting edge rather than flipping worn edges back into the cut.
