The SANDVIK COROMANT 7860709 is a DNMG433-PM 4425 carbide turning insert designed for external turning operations on CNC lathes and turning centers. It features a CVD-applied multilayer coating of TiCN, Al2O3, and TiN, which provides wear resistance and thermal protection across a range of cutting conditions. The insert carries a 55-degree diamond shape (ISO shape code D), a neutral hand orientation, and a PM chip breaker geometry engineered for stable chip control during medium to roughing passes. With four usable cutting edges per insert, it delivers a low per-edge cost in production turning environments. Machining professionals and CNC operators working in job shops and production facilities are the primary users of this insert.
This insert is suited for turning steel and cast iron workpieces in both residential-scale job shops and high-volume production floors. It belongs to the SANDVIK COROMANT T-Max P series, which targets ISO P (steel) and ISO K (cast iron) material groups. Typical applications include external longitudinal turning, facing, and contour operations where consistent chip breaking and edge life are critical to cycle time and surface finish. The PM chip breaker geometry handles a range of depths of cut and feed rates common in medium-duty turning.
Designed as an OEM-style replacement turning insert for SANDVIK COROMANT T-Max P series toolholders accepting DNMG 15 04 insert seats with clamp and screw holding methods.
Insert seating and indexing should be performed by a qualified CNC machinist or toolroom technician with the machine in a locked-out, zero-energy state per applicable lockout/tagout procedures. Ensure the insert pocket and clamping surfaces are clean and free of chips before seating the insert. Use the correct torque wrench and manufacturer-specified fasteners when securing clamp or screw holding components. Do not attempt to re-grind or rework this insert.
