The SANDVIK COROMANT 7860518 is a solid carbide turning insert from the CoroTurn 107 series, designed for external and internal turning operations on CNC lathes and turning centers. It carries a VBMT insert style with a 35-degree diamond shape and a 5-degree relief angle, providing a sharp cutting geometry suited to finishing and semi-finishing passes. The insert features a CVD-applied multilayer coating of Al2O3, TiN, and TiCN under grade 4415, delivering thermal resistance and wear protection. With a 3/8 inch inscribed circle and a 1/32 inch corner radius, this neutral-hand insert is installed by machinists and CNC operators working in production and job-shop environments.
This insert is engineered primarily for machining steel and is also rated for cast iron applications. The PR chip breaker geometry controls chip flow effectively across a range of cutting depths and feed rates typical of finish turning. The VBMT 332-PR designation follows the ISO standard VBMT 16 04 08-PR 4415, making it straightforward to cross-reference against toolholder specifications. It is suitable for both high-volume production turning and precision single-part applications where consistent surface finish and dimensional accuracy are required.
Designed for use in VBMT-style toolholders that accept a 3/8 inch inscribed circle insert with a 0.1732 inch hole diameter and clamp or screw retention. ISO code VBMT 16 04 08-PR 4415 may be used to cross-reference compatible toolholder seats and tooling systems.
Installation is performed by a machinist or CNC operator with the machine spindle fully stopped and the toolholder secured in the turret. Seat the insert firmly against the toolholder pocket and tighten the clamp or screw to the toolholder manufacturer's specified torque. Inspect the insert seat and shim for debris or damage before seating to ensure repeatable tool nose position. Follow shop-specific lockout and tagout procedures before changing inserts on live tooling or gang-style turning centers.
