The SANDVIK COROMANT 7860478 is a TCMT-style triangular turning insert engineered for precision external turning operations in metalworking and machining applications. It features a 7/32 inch inscribed circle, a 0.4 mm corner radius, and a 60-degree included angle with a neutral hand orientation. The insert is manufactured from solid carbide and carries a CVD-applied multi-layer coating consisting of Al2O3, TiN, and TiCN, which extends tool life and supports consistent surface finish performance. It belongs to the CoroTurn 107 series and is identified by ISO code TCMT 09 02 04-PF 4415 with a PF chip breaker geometry. Licensed machinists and CNC operators install this insert into compatible toolholders on lathes and turning centers.
This insert is suited for external turning of steel as its primary workpiece material and cast iron as a secondary material. The CoroTurn 107 series is designed for positive-rake, screw-clamped or clamp-held toolholders in light to medium cutting conditions. The PF chip breaker geometry is optimized for finishing passes where controlled chip formation and close tolerances are required. Typical applications include shaft turning, diameter reduction, and finish-pass operations on CNC lathes in both production shop and job shop environments.
Designed for use in CoroTurn 107 series toolholders that accept TCMT 09 02 04 inserts with screw or clamp holding. ISO code TCMT 09 02 04-PF 4415 and industry standard number TCMT 09 02 04-PF 4415 apply. Primary workpiece material is steel (ISO code P); secondary workpiece material is cast iron (ISO code K).
Installation is performed by a qualified machinist or CNC tooling technician. The machine spindle must be fully stopped and the turret locked before changing inserts. Use the appropriate torx or hex key as specified by the toolholder manufacturer when tightening the clamp or screw — do not overtighten. Inspect the toolholder pocket and seating surface for chips or debris before seating the insert to ensure proper contact and runout.
