The SANDVIK COROMANT 7859265 is a DNMG-style indexable turning insert in the T-Max P series, designed for external and internal turning operations on CNC lathes and turning centers. Manufactured from solid carbide with a CVD-applied TiCN, Al2O3, and TiN multilayer coating, this insert is engineered for cutting steel and cast iron at production feed rates. The 55-degree diamond shape (Insert Shape Code D) provides a strong, versatile nose geometry. With a 0.0313 inch (0.79 mm) corner radius and a PR chip breaker, it is suited for general-purpose roughing to medium finishing passes. Installation and indexing are handled by licensed machinists and CNC operators in production and job-shop environments.
This insert is primarily applied in turning steel workpieces, with secondary capability on cast iron. The T-Max P series targets high-productivity metal removal in both light and heavy industry. The neutral hand orientation allows use in standard right-hand toolholders without special orientation. The PR chip breaker geometry manages chip formation effectively across a range of depths of cut and feed rates, reducing downtime from chip accumulation. Typical applications include shaft turning, facing, and profiling on medium to large workpieces in automotive, aerospace, and general machining environments.
Designed for use in standard DNMG-style toolholders accepting a 5/8 inch (0.6250 inch) inscribed circle insert with a 0.2500 inch hole diameter. Compatible toolholders must accommodate the clamp and screw holding method specified for this insert style. Primary workpiece material compatibility is steel (ISO P); secondary compatibility is cast iron (ISO K).
Indexable inserts of this type are installed and indexed by qualified machinists or CNC operators following machine tool builder guidelines. Power down and lock out the spindle before indexing or replacing inserts. Use the correct torque wrench per toolholder manufacturer specifications when tightening clamping screws — do not overtighten by hand estimation. Inspect the toolholder pocket and seating surfaces for wear or debris before seating a fresh insert.
