The SANDVIK COROMANT 7859244 is a CNMG-style turning insert carrying grade designation CNMG542-WMX 4415, engineered for general turning operations in steel and cast iron. The insert is manufactured from solid carbide and finished with a CVD-applied multilayer coating of TiCN, Al2O3, and TiN, delivering heat resistance and wear protection across a wide range of cutting speeds. It features a neutral hand orientation, an 80-degree diamond insert shape, a 1/4 inch inscribed circle, a 0.79 mm (0.0313 inch) corner radius, and a WMX chip breaker geometry designed to manage chip evacuation effectively. Four cutting edges are available per insert. This insert is installed by machinists and CNC turning specialists in production and job-shop environments.
The SANDVIK COROMANT 7859244 is suited for external and internal turning operations on steel (ISO P) as its primary workpiece material, with cast iron (ISO K) as a secondary application. The WMX chip breaker geometry performs reliably in medium to finishing passes where controlled chip formation is critical. The insert seats in tool holders using a clamp and screw holding method, consistent with standard CNMG pocket configurations found across a wide range of turning tool holders. It is part of the T-Max P series, which targets high-productivity turning in ISO P and K material groups.
Designed for use in tool holders with standard CNMG insert pockets accepting a 1/4 inch inscribed circle insert with clamp or screw retention. ISO code CNMG 16 06 08-WMX 4415. Compatible with T-Max P series turning applications targeting ISO P and ISO K workpiece materials.
Installation should be performed by a qualified machinist or CNC tooling technician with the machine powered down and locked out before indexing or replacing the insert. Ensure the insert pocket and seating surface are clean and free of chips before seating the new insert. Torque the clamping screw to the tool holder specification provided by the holder manufacturer. Verify proper insert seating and edge orientation before resuming cutting operations.
