The SANDVIK COROMANT 7859204 is a solid carbide turning insert in the CNMM 643-PR 4415 designation, designed for high-productivity external turning operations on CNC lathes and turning centers. It carries a CVD-applied multilayer coating of TiCN, Al2O3, and TiN, which provides wear resistance and thermal stability across a broad range of cutting speeds. The insert has a diamond (80-degree) shape with a neutral hand orientation, a 0.75 inches inscribed circle (19.05 mm), and a corner radius of 0.0469 inches (1.19 mm). It belongs to the Sandvik T-Max P series, engineered for reliable chip control and long tool life on steel and cast iron workpieces. Machinists and CNC operators in production turning environments install this insert.
This insert is intended for turning applications where the primary workpiece material is steel (ISO material group P) and the secondary workpiece material is cast iron (ISO material group K). It is well suited for medium to rough turning passes where consistent chip breaking and edge stability are required. The PR chip breaker geometry promotes controlled chip evacuation during interrupted and continuous cuts. Typical install scenarios include external diameter turning, facing, and light profiling on production CNC turning equipment. Two cutting edges are available per insert, and it is held using a clamp or screw clamping system on compatible toolholders.
Designed as an OEM-style replacement insert for use with SANDVIK COROMANT T-Max P series toolholders that accept CNMM-style inserts. ISO code CNMM 19 06 12-PR 4415 governs fitment. Confirm toolholder seat size and clamping method before installation.
Insert installation should be performed by a qualified machinist or CNC tooling technician with the machine fully stopped and the spindle locked out per facility lockout/tagout procedures. Use the appropriate torque wrench and clamping screw driver to seat the insert firmly against the pocket without over-torquing the clamping screw. Inspect the insert pocket for wear or debris before seating a new insert. Verify cutting parameters against the manufacturer grade 4415 recommendations for the specific workpiece material before resuming production.
