The SANDVIK COROMANT 7859174 is a CNMG-style indexable turning insert in the T-Max P series, designed for external and internal turning operations on CNC lathes and turning centers. It carries manufacturer grade 4415 and features a CVD-applied multilayer coating of TiCN, Al2O3, and TiN for wear resistance and thermal stability. The insert has an 80-degree diamond shape (Insert Shape Code C), a 0.6250-inch (15.88 mm) inscribed circle, a 0.40 mm corner radius, and a neutral hand orientation. With four usable cutting edges, it delivers cost-effective tooling life in production turning environments. Licensed machinists and CNC programmers working in job shops or production facilities are the primary users.
This insert is engineered for primary use on steel workpieces (ISO material code P) and secondary use on cast iron (ISO material code K). The QM chip breaker geometry is suited for medium turning passes where chip control on ductile and harder ferrous materials is a priority. Typical applications include shaft turning, facing, and contour operations at moderate depths of cut and feed rates. The ISO designation for this insert is CNMG 16 06 04-QM 4415, and the manufacturer catalog number is CNMG 541-QM 4415.
Designed as an OEM-grade replacement and standard production insert for toolholders accepting CNMG 16 06 04 geometry inserts with clamp or screw holding, as specified in the T-Max P series platform.
Installation should be performed by a qualified machinist or tooling technician with the machine in a full stop and locked-out state before indexing or replacing inserts. Use the correct torx or hex key as specified by the toolholder manufacturer when tightening the clamping screw; do not overtighten or substitute fasteners. Inspect the insert pocket and seating surface for chips or debris before seating a new insert, as contamination will affect runout and cutting performance. Verify insert orientation and hand designation against the toolholder specification before beginning any cut.
