The SANDVIK COROMANT 7859142 is a solid carbide turning insert from the CoroTurn TR series, designed for precision external turning operations on CNC lathes and turning centers. This insert features a CVD-applied multilayer coating of TiCN, Al2O3, and TiN, which provides wear resistance and thermal stability during continuous and interrupted cuts. The 60-degree diamond shape (T-code) with an 11 mm inscribed circle and a 0.79 mm corner radius (0.0313 inches) makes it well-suited for medium-depth profiling and finishing passes. Holding is achieved via clamp or screw, and the neutral hand orientation accommodates a range of tool holder configurations. Machinists and CNC operators install this insert in ISO-compatible CoroTurn TR tooling systems.
This insert is optimized for primary use on steel (ISO P workpiece material code) and secondary use on cast iron (ISO K). It is applicable in production turning environments including automotive, general engineering, and heavy equipment component machining. The M chip breaker geometry is intended for medium cutting conditions, managing chip flow effectively across a range of feeds and depths. With two cutting edges per insert, it offers cost-effective edge utilization in high-volume turning applications. This is a single-piece package with a minimum order quantity of 10 inserts.
Designed for use with CoroTurn TR series ISO-compatible tool holders that accept clamp or screw insert holding. ISO code TR-DC1308-M 4415 identifies the holder and insert interface. Primary workpiece material is steel (P); secondary workpiece material is cast iron (K).
Installation should be performed by a qualified CNC machinist or toolroom technician with the machine spindle fully stopped and in a locked or e-stopped state. Seat the insert fully into the pocket and secure via the appropriate clamp or screw to the torque value specified in the CoroTurn TR tooling documentation. Inspect the cutting edge and pocket seating surface for chips or debris before seating each new insert. Follow the machine manufacturer and tooling OEM guidelines for insert indexing and disposal of spent edges.
