The SANDVIK COROMANT 7859127 is a SCMT-style square turning insert designed for external turning operations on CNC lathes and turning centers. It carries the ISO designation SCMT 09 T3 08-PM 4415 and belongs to the CoroTurn 107 series. The insert is manufactured from carbide substrate and features a multilayer CVD coating of TiCN, Al2O3, and TiN, delivering hardness and thermal resistance suited for productive steel and cast iron turning. The PM chip breaker geometry is engineered for reliable chip control across a range of feed rates and depths of cut. Licensed machinists and CNC operators working in metalworking shops are the primary installers.
This insert is suited for external turning, profiling, and light boring on steel and cast iron workpieces in both production and job-shop environments. The neutral hand orientation makes it compatible with standard SCMT-style toolholders used in right-hand turning operations. The CoroTurn 107 series targets general-purpose turning where consistent chip control and tool life on ferrous materials are priorities. Four usable cutting edges per insert reduce per-edge tooling cost in high-volume turning programs.
Designed for use in SCMT-compatible toolholders within the CoroTurn 107 series. Primary workpiece material is steel (ISO P); secondary workpiece material is cast iron (ISO K). Verify toolholder seat size and insert holding method before installation.
Installation should be performed by a qualified machinist or CNC tooling technician following the machine tool manufacturer's toolholder torque and clamping procedures. Power down and lock out the spindle before indexing or replacing inserts. Inspect the toolholder seat and clamping screw for wear or debris before seating a new insert. Never force an insert into a damaged or contaminated seat, as this can cause premature edge failure or insert breakage.
