The SANDVIK COROMANT 7859079 is a CCMT-style diamond-shaped turning insert designed for precision external turning operations on CNC lathes and turning centers. It carries grade 4415 solid carbide with a CVD-applied multilayer coating of TiCN, Al2O3, and TiN, which delivers wear resistance and thermal stability across a broad range of cutting conditions. The insert features a WF chip breaker geometry, a 0.4 mm corner radius, an 80-degree included angle, and an inscribed circle of 6.35 mm. With two cutting edges and a neutral hand orientation, it suits a wide range of turning tool holders used in production and job-shop environments.
This insert is engineered primarily for machining steel (ISO material group P) and cast iron (ISO material group K) in finishing and light semi-finishing operations. The WF chip breaker geometry controls chip flow at low-to-moderate depths of cut, making it well suited for close-tolerance turning passes where surface finish and dimensional accuracy are critical. It belongs to the Sandvik CoroTurn 107 series, which is built for positive-rake external turning applications. Installation is typically performed by qualified machinists or CNC setup technicians. The ISO designation for this insert is CCMT 06 02 04-WF 4415.
Designed for use in CoroTurn 107 series toolholders and any standard CCMT insert pocket accepting a C-clearance, M-tolerance insert with a 0.1102-inch hole diameter. ISO insert size code is CCMT 06 02 04. Verify holder pocket geometry and insert size code before installation.
Insert seating and clamping should be performed with the machine powered off and all rotating components fully stopped. Use the appropriate torx or hex key to the toolholder manufacturer's specified clamping procedure when securing the screw or clamp. Inspect the insert pocket for chips, debris, or wear before seating a new insert, as contamination affects seating accuracy and tool life. Follow facility safety protocols and applicable OSHA machine guarding requirements during insert changes.
