The SANDVIK COROMANT 7859078 is a solid carbide turning insert designed for precision external turning operations on CNC lathes and turning centers. Carrying the CCMT21.51-UM 4415 designation, it features an 80-degree diamond insert shape with a 0.4 mm (0.0156 inch) corner radius and a 1/4 inch (0.2500 inch) inscribed circle. The CVD-applied multilayer coating stack — TiCN, Al2O3, and TiN — provides wear resistance and thermal stability during continuous and light interrupted cuts. Insert thickness measures 0.0938 inch (3/32 inch). The UM chip breaker geometry is engineered for effective chip control in steel and cast iron applications. This insert is installed by machinists and CNC tooling technicians as a replaceable cutting edge in compatible toolholders.
This insert is suited for turning steel (ISO material code P) as the primary workpiece material and cast iron (ISO material code K) as a secondary application. It fits within the CoroTurn 107 series, which is commonly used in external profiling, facing, and longitudinal turning on both manual and CNC turning equipment. The neutral hand orientation allows flexible use across standard right-hand and left-hand setups depending on toolholder configuration. With two cutting edges per insert, it offers a direct replacement path in production turning environments where consistent surface finish and dimensional accuracy are required.
Belongs to the SANDVIK COROMANT CoroTurn 107 series. ISO code CCMT 06 02 04-UM 4415. Manufacturer catalog number CCMT2(1.5)1UM4415. Compatible with CCMT-style toolholders accepting a 1/4 inch inscribed circle insert with a 2.80 mm hole diameter and CCMT clearance and tolerance codes.
Installation should be performed by a qualified machinist or CNC tooling technician with the machine powered down and locked out before index or replacement. Seat the insert fully and evenly in the pocket before tightening the clamp or screw to the toolholder manufacturer's specified method. Inspect the insert pocket and shim for damage or debris prior to each insert change. Follow the toolholder manufacturer's instructions for screw torque and seating confirmation.
