Product Description

The SANDVIK COROMANT 7858989 is a CCMT-style indexable turning insert from the CoroTurn 107 series, manufactured from solid carbide and finished with a CVD-applied multilayer coating of TiCN, Al2O3, and TiN. It carries manufacturer grade 4415, a designation engineered for general steel turning with strong resistance to flank wear and built-up edge. The insert features an 80-degree diamond shape, a 0.79 mm corner radius, and a 9.53 mm inscribed circle. The PM chip breaker geometry is designed to manage chip flow reliably across a range of depths of cut and feed rates. Installation is neutral-hand, making it interchangeable across left- and right-hand toolholders designed for the CCMT insert style.

This insert is suited for external and internal turning operations on steel and cast iron workpieces in production and job-shop environments. The grade 4415 CVD coating performs well in continuous-cut and light-interrupted-cut conditions on low-alloy and medium-alloy steels, as well as gray and nodular cast iron. It fits toolholders that accept CCMT 09T3 inserts with clamp or screw holding, making it applicable to a wide range of CNC lathes and manual turning centers in both light and medium-duty material removal applications.

Key Features

  • CVD multilayer coating: TiCN plus Al2O3 plus TiN for wear resistance and thermal barrier performance
  • PM chip breaker geometry for controlled chip evacuation in steel and cast iron turning
  • 80-degree diamond insert shape provides a strong cutting edge angle for general-purpose turning
  • 0.79 mm corner radius balances surface finish quality with edge strength
  • Neutral-hand orientation fits both left- and right-hand CCMT-compatible toolholders
  • Two cutting edges per insert; indexed by clamp or screw holding method

Compatibility

Designed for toolholders that accept CCMT 09T3 inserts using clamp or screw holding. ISO code CCMT 09 T3 08-PM 4415. Primary workpiece material is steel (ISO material code P); secondary workpiece material is cast iron (ISO material code K).

Installation Notes

Indexable turning inserts are installed and replaced by licensed machinists or CNC operators; power down and lock out the lathe spindle before indexing or replacing any insert. Use the correct torque wrench and manufacturer-specified seating hardware for the toolholder to avoid insert rocking or premature edge failure. Inspect the insert pocket and shim for wear or debris before seating a new insert. Follow the toolholder manufacturer guidelines for clamping force when using the screw-hold method.
