The SANDVIK COROMANT 7564478 is a solid carbide milling insert designed for indexable milling operations in demanding metal-cutting applications. Manufactured in a pentagon (5-sided) shape with a positive rake geometry and corner-rounded cutting edge style, this insert delivers controlled chip formation across a range of workpiece materials. It carries a CVD tri-layer coating of TiCN, Al2O3, and TiN, which provides thermal resistance, wear protection, and oxidation resistance during high-speed or interrupted cutting. With five usable cutting edges per insert and a screw-holding method, it offers efficient tool life management for production environments.
This insert is suited for face milling, shoulder milling, and general-purpose milling of steel, stainless steel, and cast iron in both roughing and semi-finishing passes. It is classified under manufacturer grade 4340 with material grade designations P40, M40, and K40, making it applicable across ISO material groups P, M, and K. Typical installation is performed by machinists and tooling technicians in CNC machining centers and manual milling setups. The insert fits Series 419 cutter bodies and uses a PM chip breaker geometry optimized for the stated workpiece materials.
Designed for use with Series 419 indexable milling cutter bodies. ANSI and ISO code 419R-1405M-PM 4340. Suitable for primary workpiece materials: steel, stainless steel, and cast iron (ISO material groups P, M, and K).
Insert seating and screw torque should follow the cutter body manufacturer's specifications for Series 419 toolholders. Power down and lock out all spindle drives before indexing or replacing inserts. Inspect the insert pocket seat for chips or debris before seating the new insert, as contamination causes premature edge failure. Insert handling should be done with care; solid carbide edges are brittle and can chip if dropped or impacted against hard surfaces.
