The SANDVIK COROMANT 7564391 is a solid carbide milling insert designed for use in R390 series face and shoulder milling cutters. It carries a multilayer CVD coating - TiCN, Al2O3, and TiN - that delivers wear resistance across a range of workpiece materials including steel, stainless steel, and cast iron. The insert measures 0.1875 inches thick with an inscribed circle of 0.3780 inches and a corner radius of 0.1220 inches. It is a single-sided, right-hand, parallelogram-shaped insert with a positive rake angle of 17 degrees and two cutting edges per insert. Licensed machinists and CNC mill operators install this insert in production and job-shop environments where consistent tool life and surface finish are priorities.
This insert is suited for milling operations on steel, stainless steel, and cast iron in both roughing and semi-finishing passes. The PM chip breaker geometry is optimized for positive-rake cutting action, reducing cutting forces on workpiece and spindle. The R390 series designation means this insert seats directly into compatible R390 cutter bodies. It is commonly used in horizontal and vertical machining centers running indexed milling heads on industrial components, structural parts, and machined castings. Minimum order quantity is 10 inserts, sold individually per package.
Designed for use in R390 series cutter bodies. Insert size code is 170431 and the ANSI and ISO catalog designation is R390-17 04 31M-PM 4340. Confirmed compatible cutter series: R390.
Installation is performed by qualified machinists or tooling technicians. Always power down and lock out the spindle before indexing or replacing inserts. Use the correct Torx or hex key as specified by the cutter body manufacturer to seat the crew to proper feel - do not overtighten, as this can crack the carbide substrate. Inspect the insert pocket for chips or debris before seating a new insert to ensure full, flat contact and accurate cutting geometry.
