The SANDVIK COROMANT 7564389 is a solid carbide milling insert designed for the R390 cutter series. It carries a CVD-applied multilayer coating of TiCN, Al2O3, and TiN under manufacturer grade 4340, delivering hardness and thermal resistance across a range of workpiece materials. The insert is parallelogram-shaped with a 90-degree included angle, a positive 22-degree rake angle, and a corner-rounded cutting edge style. Two cutting edges are available per insert. It measures 0.1875 inches thick with an inscribed circle of 0.3780 inches. Screw-down holding secures it in compatible R390 toolholders. CNC machinists and toolroom technicians working in production or job-shop environments are the primary installers.
This insert is rated for primary workpiece materials of steel (P), stainless steel (M), and cast iron (K), aligning with ISO material grades P40, M40, and K40. The PM chip breaker geometry supports interrupted and continuous cuts at moderate-to-heavy depths. The right-hand insert orientation suits standard R390 face mill and shoulder mill bodies. Maximum depth of cut reaches 0.6181 inches, making it suitable for roughing and semi-finishing passes in ferrous materials. It is sold individually but carries a minimum order quantity of 10 units.
Designed for use with R390 series cutter bodies. ANSI and ISO code: R390-17 04 24E-PM 4340. Insert size code 170424. Compatible with R390 face mills and shoulder mills accepting right-hand parallelogram inserts with a 0.1614-inch hole diameter.
Installation is performed by qualified CNC machinists or toolroom technicians following machine lockout and spindle-stop procedures before any insert change. Use the correct Torx or hex key driver specified by the toolholder manufacturer to seat the clamping screw - do not overtighten, as this can fracture the insert body. Inspect the insert pocket seat for chips or debris before seating a new insert to ensure full, flat contact. Verify insert orientation matches the right-hand designation of the cutter body before powering the spindle.
