The SANDVIK COROMANT 7564387 is a solid carbide milling insert for the R390 cutter series, designed for high-performance square shoulder milling operations. It carries a three-layer CVD coating of TiCN, Al2O3, and TiN under manufacturer grade 4340, targeting steel, stainless steel, and cast iron workpieces. The insert measures 0.1875 inches thick with an inscribed circle of 0.3780 inches and delivers a maximum depth of cut of 0.6181 inches. Its parallelogram shape with a 90-degree included angle and a 1.60 mm corner radius supports consistent chip formation. A licensed machinist or tooling technician installs and indexes this insert at the machine.
This insert is sized for R390-series face and shoulder milling cutters running at positive rake angles. The PM chip breaker geometry makes it well suited for general-purpose to semi-finishing passes on steel and stainless steel components, as well as cast iron. With two cutting edges per insert and a right-hand orientation, it is compatible with R390 toolholders and cutters that accept the 17 04 16M seat geometry. The ANSI and ISO catalog designation is R390-17 04 16M-PM 4340, which can be used to cross-reference cutter body compatibility in Sandvik Coromant tooling catalogs.
Designed for use in R390-series cutter bodies accepting the insert size code 170416 and seat designation R390-17 04 16M-PM. ANSI and ISO code R390-17 04 16M-PM 4340 applies. Confirm cutter body insert pocket geometry before installation.
Installation is performed by a qualified machinist or tooling technician. Power down and lock out the machine spindle completely before indexing or replacing inserts. Use the correct torx or hex key specified by the cutter body manufacturer to seat the clamping screw to the recommended engagement; do not overtighten, as carbide inserts are brittle. Inspect the insert pocket and seating surface for chips or debris before installing a new insert.
