The SANDVIK COROMANT 7564386 is a solid carbide milling insert designed for use in R390 series face and shoulder milling cutters. This parallelogram-shaped, single-sided insert carries a CVD-applied multilayer coating of TiCN, Al2O3, and TiN under manufacturer grade 4340, delivering wear resistance and thermal stability across demanding cutting conditions. It measures 0.1875 inches thick and 0.3780 inches wide, with a corner radius of 0.0630 inches. The insert features a positive rake angle of 10 degrees and a PH chip breaker geometry, which promotes controlled chip evacuation during interrupted or continuous cuts in steel, stainless steel, and cast iron. Installation is performed by machining professionals and CNC tooling technicians working with compatible R390-series cutter bodies.
This insert is suited for face milling, shoulder milling, and ramping operations in production and job-shop environments. Primary workpiece materials include steel, stainless steel, and cast iron, corresponding to ISO material groups P, M, and K. The grade 4340 and material grade designations P40, M40, and K40 make this insert appropriate for moderate to roughing conditions where edge toughness is required alongside coating performance. The ANSI and ISO catalog designation is R390-17 04 16M-PH 4340. It is held in the cutter body by a screw-clamp method and is designed for right-hand cutting only.

Installation is performed by a qualified machinist or CNC tooling technician. Seat the insert fully into the cutter pocket and tighten the clamping screw to the cutter body manufacturer's specified torque using the correct Torx or hex key. Inspect the pocket seating surface for chips or debris before installing a new insert, as contamination will affect runout and edge life.
