The SANDVIK COROMANT 7564383 is a solid carbide milling insert designed for use in R390 series face and shoulder milling cutters. Carrying the ANSI/ISO designation R390-17 04 12E-PM 4340, this parallelogram-style insert features a triple-layer CVD coating of TiCN, Al2O3, and TiN that supports extended tool life in demanding metal-removal applications. The PM chip breaker geometry and positive 23-degree rake angle reduce cutting forces and help control chip formation. With two usable cutting edges per insert, it delivers a repeatable, cost-effective cutting solution for machinists and CNC tooling technicians working in steel, stainless steel, and cast iron.
This insert is suited for medium to roughing-range milling operations in ferrous and cast materials. Material grade designations P40, M40, and K40 indicate coverage across steel, stainless steel, and cast iron workpiece families. The right-hand, single-sided configuration and screw-holding method make it a standard fit for R390 cutter bodies in both production shop and job-shop environments. Typical applications include shoulder milling, face milling, and ramping passes where controlled depth of cut and chip breaking are priorities.
Designed for use with SANDVIK COROMANT R390 series cutter bodies. ANSI and ISO code R390-17 04 12E-PM 4340 confirms direct fitment within the R390 cutter family. Compatible workpiece materials are steel, stainless steel, and cast iron as indicated by primary material codes P, M, and K.
Installation is performed by a qualified machinist or CNC tooling technician. Before seating the insert, ensure the cutter body pocket and screw thread are clean and free of chips or debris. Secure the insert using the specified clamping screw and torque driver appropriate for the R390 cutter body - do not overtighten or use impact tools on insert screws. Inspect the insert seating surface and corner radius condition before each use to confirm edge integrity.
