The SANDVIK COROMANT 7564353 is a solid carbide milling insert in the 490 series, designed for use in high-productivity face and shoulder milling operations. It carries a manufacturer grade of 4340 and features a multilayer CVD coating of TiCN, Al2O3, and TiN for extended tool life in demanding cut conditions. The insert has a square shape with a 90-degree included angle, a positive 22-degree rake angle, and corner-rounded cutting edges. The corner radius measures 1.20 mm (0.0472 inches) and the inscribed circle is 13.80 mm (0.5433 inches). With four usable cutting edges per insert, it delivers a strong cost-per-edge value for shop and field machining setups. Insert holding is by screw, and the insert hand is right-hand.
This insert is suited for milling steel, stainless steel, and cast iron, corresponding to material application codes P, M, and K (material grades P40, M40, and K40). It is a single-sided insert intended for use in 490-series cutter bodies with the PM chip breaker configuration. The ANSI and ISO designation for this insert is 490R-140412M-PM 4340, and the insert size code is 140412. Maximum depth of cut is 0.3937 inches. Typical applications include roughing to semi-finishing passes on ferrous workpiece materials in both CNC machining centers and manual milling setups.

Installation is performed by a machinist or tooling technician using the appropriate Torx or hex key for the insert clamping screw — consult the cutter body documentation for the correct screw size and seating procedure. Ensure the cutter body pocket and seating surfaces are clean and free of chips before inserting. Never reuse a damaged or worn screw, as improper clamping torque can cause insert movement under load. Inspect all cutting edges before indexing to confirm the correct edge is presented to the workpiece.
