The SANDVIK COROMANT 7231492 is a VCMT-style turning insert in the CoroTurn 107 series, designed for precision external turning operations on CNC lathes and turning centers. This indexable insert is manufactured from solid carbide and features a multilayer CVD coating of TiCN, Al2O3, and TiN, which provides wear resistance, thermal stability, and oxidation protection during cutting. It carries a neutral hand orientation and a 35-degree diamond insert shape, giving it a sharp, low-contact geometry suited for finishing and semi-finishing passes. The manufacturer grade is 2220, optimized for cutting stainless steel and other ISO M-category workpiece materials.
This insert is intended for use in stainless steel turning applications where surface finish and tool life consistency are critical. The CoroTurn 107 series is commonly used in light-to-medium-duty external turning, profiling, and copying operations on CNC equipment. The MM chip breaker geometry is designed to manage chip flow and reduce built-up edge when machining austenitic and other difficult-to-cut stainless alloys. It is typically installed and indexed by machinists, toolroom technicians, and CNC setup operators working in production or job-shop environments.
Designed for use in CoroTurn 107 series toolholders accepting VCMT-style inserts with a screw-clamp holding method, clearance code C, and tolerance code M. Primary workpiece material classification is ISO M, with stainless steel as the intended application material.
Installation and indexing should be performed by qualified machinists or CNC toolroom personnel with the machine spindle fully stopped and all axis movement locked out. Use the appropriate Torx or hex key torque driver specified by the toolholder manufacturer to seat the clamping screw. Inspect the insert pocket and seating surface for chips or debris before indexing to a fresh cutting edge. Follow the toolholder manufacturer's clamping torque guidance to avoid insert fracture or pocket damage.
