The SANDVIK COROMANT 7231367 is a DCMT-style indexable turning insert designed for precision external turning operations. Built from solid carbide and coated via CVD with a TiCN, Al2O3, and TiN multilayer stack, this insert delivers wear resistance and thermal stability across a wide range of cutting conditions. It carries a 55-degree diamond shape, a 3/8-inch inscribed circle (0.375 inches), a 5/32-inch thickness (0.1563 inches), and a 1/64-inch corner radius (0.0156 inches). Neutral hand orientation makes it suitable for straightforward external turning setups. Licensed machinists and CNC lathe operators install this insert as part of the CoroTurn 107 tooling system.
The 7231367 is engineered for turning stainless steel as its primary workpiece material, where the CVD-applied TiCN and Al2O3 layers resist built-up edge and crater wear under continuous and interrupted cuts. The UM chip breaker geometry promotes effective chip control in medium to light finishing passes on austenitic and duplex stainless grades. With two cutting edges per insert, it provides a cost-effective indexing interval for production turning environments. The insert mates with CoroTurn 107 screw-clamp holders that accept the DCMT insert pocket geometry with a 7-degree relief angle and a C clearance code.
Designed for use in SANDVIK COROMANT CoroTurn 107 series screw-clamp turning holders accepting DCMT insert geometry. ISO designation DCMT 11 T3 04-UM 2220 can be used to identify compatible third-party holders with matching DCMT pocket specifications.
Installation is performed by qualified CNC machinists or manual lathe operators. Power down and lock out the machine spindle before indexing or replacing inserts. Use the correct Torx or hex key per the holder manufacturer's specification to seat the clamping screw — do not overtighten, as this can crack the insert or distort the pocket. Inspect the insert pocket and shim for debris or damage before seating a new insert edge.
