The SANDVIK COROMANT 7231350 is a CNMG-style indexable turning insert designed for precision external turning operations on CNC lathes and turning centers. Manufactured from solid carbide and finished with a CVD-applied multilayer coating of TiCN, Al2O3, and TiN, this insert is engineered for consistent performance in stainless steel and other ISO M-class workpiece materials. It features an 80-degree diamond insert shape, a 3/4 inch inscribed circle, and a 3/64 inch corner radius (0.0469 inches), providing a balance of cutting edge strength and surface finish capability. The neutral hand orientation makes it suitable for both right- and left-hand toolholder setups. CNC machinists and tooling specialists working in production turning environments are the primary installers of this insert.
This insert is part of the SANDVIK COROMANT T-Max P series, a platform commonly used in external turning, facing, and profiling applications. The MR chip breaker geometry is suited for medium to finishing cuts in stainless steel, providing reliable chip control across a range of feed rates and depths of cut. The four cutting edges per insert support cost-effective indexing in production environments. Applications include both roughing-to-finishing transitions and continuous cuts on austenitic and duplex stainless steel components in industrial manufacturing settings.
Designed for use in CNMG-style toolholders within the SANDVIK COROMANT T-Max P series. ISO code CNMG 19 06 12-MR 2220. Compatible with toolholders that accept CNMG 643 inserts using clamp and pin holding methods.
Installation is performed by qualified CNC machinists or tooling technicians. Power down and de-energize the machine before indexing or replacing inserts. Inspect the insert pocket and clamping components for wear or debris before seating a new insert. Handle carbide inserts with care to avoid chipping the cutting edges prior to use.
