The SANDVIK COROMANT 7231310 is a CCMT-style indexable turning insert from the CoroTurn 107 series, engineered for precision external and internal turning operations. Built from solid carbide and coated via CVD with a TiCN, Al2O3, and TiN multilayer stack, this insert delivers wear resistance and thermal stability across demanding cutting conditions. The 80-degree diamond insert shape (C) provides a strong cutting edge geometry, while the MF chip breaker is optimized for finishing passes. With a 3/8-inch inscribed circle and a 1/32-inch corner radius, it is suited for close-tolerance turning work on stainless steel and similar materials. Grade 2220 is Sandvik Coromant's CVD-coated carbide grade developed specifically for ISO M workpiece materials.
This insert is intended for use in screw-clamp turning toolholders that accept CCMT 09 T3 08 geometry inserts. It is a neutral-hand insert, making it compatible with both right-hand and centerline toolholder configurations. Primary application is finish turning of stainless steel and other ISO M group materials in CNC lathe operations, both in production shops and job-shop environments. The CoroTurn 107 series is a common platform in general turning and light-duty profiling applications where insert security and surface finish consistency are priorities.
Designed for screw-clamp CCMT toolholders accepting CCMT 09 T3 08 insert geometry. ISO size code 32.52 with a 0.1732-inch hole diameter. Confirm toolholder pocket geometry and clamp type before installation.
Indexable turning inserts should be installed by a qualified machinist or CNC operator with the machine in a full stop and lockout/tagout procedures applied. Use the correct Torx or hex key to torque the clamping screw to the toolholder manufacturer's specified value — do not over-tighten, as this can fracture the carbide substrate. Inspect the insert pocket and seating surface for chips or debris before seating the insert. Replace the insert at the first sign of chipping, built-up edge, or degraded surface finish on the workpiece.
