The SANDVIK COROMANT 7101118 is a solid carbide milling insert in the R245 series, designed for use in compatible R245 face and shoulder milling cutters. The insert carries an AlTiCrN coating applied via PVD process, which provides thermal stability and wear resistance during interrupted and continuous cutting operations. It features a square shape with a 90-degree included angle, four usable cutting edges, a positive 15-degree rake angle, and a corner radius of 1.50 mm (0.0591 inches). The insert size code is 12T3 and the ANSI/ISO designation is R245-12 T3 M-PL 1130. Installation and setup are performed by machinists and tooling specialists in CNC milling environments.
This insert is suited for milling operations on steel, stainless steel, non-ferrous metals, superalloys, titanium, and hard materials, corresponding to material grades P30, M15, and N15. The PL chip breaker geometry supports stable chip formation across these workpiece categories. It is appropriate for both roughing and finishing passes where shoulder milling or face milling with the R245 cutter body is specified. The right-hand cutting orientation and screw-held mounting method make it compatible with standard R245 tooling setups in production and job-shop environments.
Designed for use with R245 series milling cutter bodies as specified by SANDVIK COROMANT. The cutter series compatibility is R245. Specific compatible cutter body part numbers should be confirmed against the R245 tooling lineup using the ANSI/ISO designation R245-12 T3 M-PL 1130.
This insert is installed by a qualified machinist or tooling technician using the screw-held mounting method standard to the R245 cutter body. The cutter must be fully de-energized and the spindle locked before insert indexing or replacement. Use the correct torx or hex key as specified by the cutter body manufacturer for the clamping screw — do not over-torque. Verify insert seating and runout before resuming cutting operations.
