The SANDVIK COROMANT 7101064 is a solid carbide grooving insert designed for use in CoroMill QD series milling systems. It features a 0.1252-inch (3.18 mm) cutting width and a neutral hand orientation, making it suitable for straight grooving operations without a directional bias. The insert carries an AlTiCrN coating applied via PVD process, which provides heat and wear resistance in demanding cutting conditions. With a rake angle of 7 degrees and a PM chip breaker geometry, it is built for controlled chip evacuation in ferrous and non-ferrous materials. Machinists and CNC operators working in precision grooving applications will find this insert compatible with standard QD-style toolholders.
This insert is intended for grooving operations on CNC machining centers and milling machines where the CoroMill QD system is in use. It is suited for both roughing and finishing groove profiles in industrial metalworking environments, including production shops and job shops handling steel, stainless steel, and similar materials. The PM chip breaker geometry is optimized for stable chip control during slotting and face grooving. It is a direct replacement insert for worn or depleted inserts in existing QD-N style toolholder assemblies.
Designed as a replacement insert for CoroMill QD series toolholders using QD-N insert style with size G inserts. Confirm toolholder compatibility using the ISO code QD-NG-0318-020E-PM 1130.
Insert replacement should be performed by a qualified machinist or CNC operator with the machine powered down and in a safe, locked-out state. Use the appropriate insert seating torque tool as specified by the toolholder manufacturer — do not overtighten or use improvised tools on the clamping screw. Inspect the insert pocket and clamping components for wear or debris before seating the new insert. Handle carbide inserts carefully to avoid chipping the cutting edge prior to use.
