The SANDVIK COROMANT 7100959 is a solid carbide ball nose milling insert engineered for high-performance milling operations across a broad range of workpiece materials. Manufactured to grade 1130 and coated with AlTiCrN via a PVD process, this insert delivers consistent cutting performance and thermal resistance at the cutting edge. With a positive rake angle and a rounded cutting edge style, it is designed to reduce cutting forces and produce smooth surface finishes. The insert features two cutting edges, an insert size code of 1603, and a thickness of 0.125 inches (3.18 mm). It is held in place by a screw-type clamping method and is intended for use in compatible RA216-series toolholders. Licensed machinists and CNC milling professionals install this insert in both roughing and finishing applications.
This insert is suited for milling steel, stainless steel, non-ferrous metals, superalloys, titanium, and hard materials, covering material application codes P, M, N, S, and H. It is a right-hand insert and is cataloged under ANSI and ISO code RA216-16 03 M-M 1130. Typical applications include ball nose profiling, contouring, and cavity milling in precision manufacturing environments such as die and mold, aerospace component machining, and general metalworking. The chip breaker designation is M, supporting a versatile range of feed rates and depth-of-cut conditions.
Designed for use with SANDVIK COROMANT RA216-series milling cutters, as specified by cutter series compatibility code RA216. ANSI and ISO catalog designation is RA216-16 03 M-M 1130.
Installation should be performed by a qualified machinist or CNC tooling technician. Power down and lock out the machine spindle before removing or seating inserts. Use the correct Torx or hex key for the insert clamping screw and ensure the pocket seat is clean and free of chips before seating the insert. Do not reuse damaged or worn insert screws, as improper clamping can cause insert movement during a cut.
