The SANDVIK COROMANT 7080925 is a VNMG-style turning insert designed for external turning operations on CNC lathes and turning centers. Grade 4335 solid carbide substrate is coated via CVD with a three-layer TiCN, Al2O3, and TiN stack, providing wear resistance, thermal stability, and crater resistance suited to steel turning. The insert carries a 35-degree diamond shape (V) with a neutral hand orientation, a 3/8-inch inscribed circle, a 3/16-inch thickness, and a 1/32-inch corner radius. The QM chip breaker geometry is engineered to control chip flow during medium-range steel machining passes. Four cutting edges are available per insert.
This insert is intended for precision turning of steel workpieces (ISO material group P) in production machining environments. It fits standard VNMG toolholders that accept a 0.150-inch hole diameter and use clamp-and-pin holding. Typical applications include shaft turning, facing, and contour work on steel components in automotive, general engineering, and job-shop settings. It belongs to the SANDVIK COROMANT T-Max P series, which is optimized for external turning with controlled chip breaking in continuous and light-interrupted cuts.
Designed for use in standard VNMG-style turning toolholders accepting a clamp-and-pin holding method with a 0.150-inch hole diameter. ISO code VNMG 16 04 08-QM 4335 may be used to cross-reference compatible toolholder pockets and insert seats per ISO turning insert standards.
Installation is performed by qualified machinists or CNC tooling technicians. Power down and lock out the machine spindle before seating or removing inserts. Use the appropriate torx or hex key to torque the clamp screw to the toolholder manufacturer specification — do not overtighten, as carbide inserts are brittle and will crack under excessive clamping force. Inspect the insert pocket seat for chips or debris before seating a new insert to ensure full contact and accurate tool-nose position.
