The SANDVIK COROMANT 7080840 is a SNMG-style indexable turning insert designed for external turning operations on CNC lathes and turning centers. It carries the manufacturer grade designation 4335 and features a CVD-applied multilayer coating of TiCN, Al2O3, and TiN, delivering wear resistance and thermal protection during steel cutting. The insert has a 3/8-inch (0.3750-inch) inscribed circle, a 1/32-inch (0.0313-inch) corner radius, and a neutral hand orientation. It belongs to the SANDVIK COROMANT T-Max P series and is engineered primarily for steel workpieces classified under ISO material code P. The PM chip breaker geometry supports a broad range of depths of cut and feed rates in general steel turning applications.
This insert is suited for medium to finishing turning passes on steel components in both production machining and job-shop environments. The square insert shape with a 90-degree included angle and 0-degree clearance (N clearance code, M tolerance) provides eight usable cutting edges per insert, lowering cost per edge in high-volume turning operations. The ISO designation for this insert is SNMG 09 03 08-PM 4335. It is held in the toolholder by clamp and pin methods, which are standard across a wide range of SNMG-compatible boring bars and external turning holders.
Designed for use in SNMG-compatible external turning and boring holders that accept a 3/8-inch inscribed circle square insert with clamp and pin holding. Primary workpiece material is steel (ISO P). ISO insert code is SNMG 09 03 08-PM 4335.
Installation should be performed by a qualified machinist or toolroom technician with the machine in a full stop, locked-out condition. Seat the insert fully against the pocket walls before tightening the clamp to avoid insert rocking or chipping on first contact. Inspect the insert pocket and seating surfaces for chips or debris before indexing to a fresh cutting edge. Follow the toolholder manufacturer torque specifications for clamp screws, as over-tightening can fracture the carbide substrate.
