The SANDVIK COROMANT 7080822 is a CVD-coated solid carbide turning insert designed for precision metal cutting in CNC lathe and turning center applications. Manufactured to the CNMG 12 04 12-PM 4335 ISO standard, this insert features a multilayer TiCN, Al2O3, and TiN coating applied via CVD process for thermal resistance and wear performance on steel workpieces. The 80-degree diamond shape provides a strong cutting edge, while the PM chip breaker geometry promotes controlled chip evacuation during medium to roughing passes. This insert is installed by machinists and CNC operators in production and job-shop environments targeting steel components.
This insert is suited for turning operations on steel workpieces, classified under ISO material group P. It fits into CNMG-style toolholders using clamp and pin holding methods. The neutral hand orientation makes it compatible with both right-hand and left-hand toolholder setups. With four cutting edges per insert and a 0.5000-inch inscribed circle, it is a cost-effective choice for medium-volume production turning on ferrous materials. It belongs to SANDVIK COROMANT's T-Max P series, which targets general-purpose external and internal turning on steel.
Designed for use in CNMG-style turning toolholders that accept a 1/2-inch inscribed circle insert with clamp and pin holding. Primary workpiece material is steel (ISO P group). Verify toolholder pocket specifications against ISO code CNMG 12 04 12 before installation.
Installation is performed by a qualified machinist or CNC setup technician. Power down and lock out the machine spindle before indexing or replacing inserts. Use the appropriate torque wrench and clamp hardware specified by the toolholder manufacturer when seating the insert. Inspect the pocket seat and clamp pin for wear or debris before installing a new insert to ensure proper clamping force and edge repeatability.
