The SANDVIK COROMANT 7080799 is a CNMG-style indexable turning insert in the T-Max P series, designed for precision turning operations on steel workpieces. It carries a CVD-applied multilayer coating of TiCN, Al2O3, and TiN over a solid carbide substrate, delivering wear resistance and thermal protection during continuous and interrupted cuts. The insert features a neutral hand orientation, an 80-degree diamond shape, a 5/8-inch (0.6250 inch) inscribed circle, and a 3/64-inch (0.0469 inch) corner radius. Four cutting edges are available per insert. The MR chip breaker geometry is suited to medium turning passes in steel. Licensed machinists and CNC turning specialists are the primary installers.
This insert is intended for external and internal turning operations on steel, corresponding to ISO material group P. The T-Max P series is a well-established SANDVIK COROMANT platform for steel turning on CNC lathes and turning centers in both production and job-shop environments. The 80-degree diamond shape provides a strong cutting edge with good accessibility for profiling cuts. The neutral hand configuration makes it adaptable to both right-hand and left-hand toolholders designed for CNMG inserts. Manufacturer grade 4335 and the CVD multilayer coating make this insert particularly suited to continuous steel turning at moderate to high cutting speeds.
Designed for use in CNMG-style toolholders that accept a 5/8-inch inscribed circle insert with clamp or pin holding methods. Primary workpiece material is steel (ISO P group). ISO code CNMG 16 06 12-MR 4335 can be used to identify compatible toolholder systems and replacement inserts.
Installation is performed by a machinist or toolroom technician on a CNC lathe or manual turning center. Shut down spindle rotation and confirm the machine is in a safe, locked-out state before changing inserts. Seat the insert firmly against the pocket locating surfaces and secure with the appropriate clamp or pin per the toolholder manufacturer instructions. Inspect the cutting edge and chip breaker for damage before indexing to a fresh edge.
