The SANDVIK COROMANT 7080720 is a VBMT-style solid carbide turning insert designed for external turning operations on steel workpieces. Part of the CoroTurn 107 series, this insert features a CVD-applied multilayer coating of TiCN, Al2O3, and TiN that improves wear resistance and extends tool life in continuous and light interrupted cuts. The insert carries a 35-degree diamond shape, a 3/8-inch inscribed circle, a 1/32-inch corner radius, and a PM chip breaker geometry optimized for medium steel machining. It is installed by a screw-holding method and provides two cutting edges per insert.
This insert is intended for steel turning applications in CNC lathe and turning center environments, both in job shop and production settings. The neutral hand orientation suits standard right-hand tool holders. The PM chip breaker geometry is well matched to medium-depth passes on low-to-medium alloy steels, where reliable chip control and consistent surface finish are required. Machinists and tool crib technicians working with CoroTurn 107 tooling systems will find this insert a direct fit. Minimum order quantity is 10 inserts; packaging quantity is 1 per pack.
Designed for use with CoroTurn 107 series screw-clamp tool holders that accept VBMT-style inserts. ISO code VBMT 16 04 08-PM 4335 identifies the full insert designation for cross-referencing with compatible holders. Primary workpiece material classification is P (steel).
Installation is performed by a qualified machinist or tool crib technician using the appropriate Torx or hex key to seat the screw-clamp mechanism. Power down and lock out the machine before indexing or replacing inserts. Ensure the insert pocket and seating surface are clean and free of chips before seating the new insert. Do not overtighten the clamping screw, as this can crack the carbide substrate.
