The SANDVIK COROMANT 6917033 is a solid carbide cutoff and grooving insert designed for precision parting and groove operations on CNC lathes and turning centers. Carrying the QDNG insert style designation and manufacturer grade H13A, this uncoated insert delivers a 3 mm cutting width with a 0.1 mm corner radius, making it well suited for tight-tolerance grooving work where dimensional accuracy at the groove floor is critical. The NL chipbreaker geometry promotes controlled chip evacuation in both ferrous and non-ferrous materials. Machinists and tool-and-die technicians specify this insert when tight groove width tolerances must be held without a coating buildup variable affecting the cut.
This insert is used in cut-off and grooving applications on production turning equipment. The neutral hand orientation allows use in standard straight-plunge parting operations. It is commonly installed in compatible QDNG-style insert holders on manual or CNC lathes across job shop, production machining, and maintenance machining environments. The H13A uncoated carbide grade is particularly appropriate when cutting aluminum, brass, and other non-ferrous materials, or when post-process dimensional consistency is the priority over extended tool life under high heat.
Designed for use in QDNG-style insert holders compatible with the QDNG0300010ENL insert form factor. Confirm holder pocket dimensions and clamping style before installation.
Insert seating and clamping should be performed by a qualified machinist following the toolholder manufacturer's torque and clamping specifications. Ensure the machine spindle is fully stopped and the machine is placed in a safe, locked-out state before changing inserts. Inspect the insert pocket for chips, debris, or wear before seating the new insert, as contamination in the pocket can affect insert stability and groove accuracy. Follow applicable shop safety standards for handling carbide inserts, as edges are extremely sharp.
