Product Description

The SANDVIK COROMANT 6906949 is a solid carbide milling insert designed for high-performance shoulder and face milling operations across a broad range of workpiece materials. Carrying the ANSI and ISO designation R390-11 T3 24E-PM 1130, this parallelogram-shaped, right-hand insert measures 11 millimeters wide and 3.97 millimeters thick. It features an AlTiCrN coating applied via PVD process, grade 1130, with a positive rake angle of 25 degrees and a 21-degree relief angle. The PM chip breaker geometry supports stable cutting and effective chip control. Machinists and tooling technicians working in high-mix production environments install these inserts in compatible R390-series cutter bodies.

This insert is suited for milling steel, stainless steel, non-ferrous metals, superalloys, titanium, and hard materials, covering material grades P, M, N, S, and H. It is a single-sided insert with two cutting edges, a 90-degree included angle, and a corner radius of 2.40 millimeters. The maximum depth of cut reaches 10 millimeters. Typical applications include shoulder milling, pocket milling, and ramping in both roughing and semi-finishing passes on CNC machining centers in job shop and production environments.

Key Features

  • AlTiCrN coating via PVD process for wear resistance across steel and stainless steel applications
  • Positive rake angle of 25 degrees reduces cutting forces and supports lighter machine spindles
  • PM chip breaker geometry promotes effective chip evacuation in wet and dry cutting
  • 2.40 mm corner radius balances surface finish quality with edge strength
  • Right-hand cut with screw-locking insert holding method for secure, repeatable seating
  • Compatible with material grades P, M, N, S, and H — broad workpiece material range

Compatibility

Designed for use with M-32 and R390 cutter series bodies per manufacturer specifications. Insert size code 11T324 with ANSI and ISO designation R390-11 T3 24E-PM 1130.

Installation Notes

Installation is performed by a qualified machinist or tooling technician. Power down and lock out the machine spindle before seating or removing inserts. Use the appropriate torx or hex key to tighten the clamping screw to the cutter body manufacturer's specification — do not overtighten, as this can crack the carbide. Inspect the insert pocket and seating surface for chips or debris before installation to ensure proper insert orientation and secure seating.
