The SANDVIK COROMANT 6906947 is a solid carbide milling insert designed for high-performance metal removal in face milling and shoulder milling applications. Carrying the ANSI and ISO designation R390-11 T3 16M-PM 1130, this insert features a parallelogram shape with a 90-degree included angle, a positive rake geometry at 25 degrees, and a 21-degree relief angle. The AlTiCrN coating is applied via PVD process under the manufacturer grade 1130, delivering thermal resistance and edge durability across demanding cutting conditions. It measures 11.00 mm wide and 3.97 mm thick, with a 1.60 mm corner radius. Holding method is screw-on, and the insert is single-sided with two cutting edges per insert.
This insert is suited for use in R390 and M-32 series cutter bodies in both roughing and semi-finishing operations. Primary workpiece materials include steel, stainless steel, non-ferrous metals, superalloys, titanium, and hard materials, covering material grades P30, M15, and N15. It is a right-hand insert with a PM chip breaker geometry, making it appropriate for general-purpose milling where chip control and insert life are priorities. Licensed machinists and CNC operators in production shops, job shops, and maintenance environments are the typical end users. Maximum depth of cut is 10.00 mm.
Compatible with R390 and M-32 series cutter bodies. ANSI code R390-11 T3 16M-PM 1130 and ISO code R390-11 T3 16M-PM 1130 are both applicable. Insert size code is 11T316. Verify cutter body specifications before installation to confirm insert pocket dimensions and screw thread compatibility.
Installation is performed by qualified CNC machinists or tooling technicians. Always power down and lock out the machine spindle before seating or removing inserts. Use the correct torque driver for the cutter body screw to avoid damaging the insert pocket or seating surface. Inspect the insert pocket and shim seat for debris or wear before installing a new insert, and confirm correct insert orientation for right-hand cut direction.
