Product Description

The SANDVIK COROMANT 6868251 is a CCMT-style indexable turning insert from the CoroTurn 107 series, designed for precision external turning operations on CNC lathes and turning centers. This solid carbide insert features a CVD-applied multilayer coating of TiCN, Al2O3, and TiN, providing thermal resistance and wear protection through the cut. It has a neutral hand orientation, an 80-degree diamond (rhombic) shape, a 1/2-inch inscribed circle, and a 3/64-inch corner radius. With two cutting edges per insert and a screw-clamp holding method, it delivers consistent tool life in production turning environments. Licensed machinists and CNC operators install and index these inserts during tooling changeovers.

This insert is optimized for turning cast iron workpieces, corresponding to ISO primary workpiece material code K. The CoroTurn 107 series is suited for external and internal profiling operations where a positive cutting geometry and a secure screw-lock seating are required. The KR chip breaker geometry is designed to manage chip evacuation effectively in medium-depth finishing and semi-finishing passes. The maximum depth of cut is 11.70 mm. This insert is sold individually, with a minimum order quantity of 10 units.

Key Features

  • CVD multilayer coating: TiCN, Al2O3, and TiN for wear and heat resistance in cast iron cutting
  • 80-degree diamond insert shape (Shape Code C) for versatile profiling and turning
  • KR chip breaker geometry suited for medium-depth finishing and semi-finishing passes
  • Screw-clamp (insert holding method) seating for secure, repeatable edge positioning
  • Two usable cutting edges per insert for extended tooling economy
  • Neutral hand orientation compatible with standard CCMT toolholders

Compatibility

Designed for use in CCMT-compatible toolholders conforming to ISO standard CCMT 12 04 12 insert geometry. Verify toolholder pocket dimensions, clearance code C, and tolerance code M before installation. Confirmed primary application is cast iron (ISO material code K).

Installation Notes

Installation and indexing of turning inserts should be performed by qualified machinists or CNC tooling technicians with the spindle fully stopped and the machine locked out per site safety procedures. Seat the insert firmly in the toolholder pocket before tightening the clamping screw; do not overtighten, as this can fracture the carbide substrate. Inspect the pocket for chips or debris before seating a new edge. Follow the toolholder manufacturer's torque guidance for the clamping screw size used.
