The SANDVIK COROMANT 6851303 is a solid carbide turning insert with a TiAlN2 PVD coating, designed for precision external and internal turning operations on difficult-to-machine materials. It features a 35-degree diamond (V-shape) insert geometry with a VNGG style, neutral hand orientation, and a 0.10 mm corner radius. The insert measures 16.61 mm in length with a 3/8-inch inscribed circle and carries the SGF chip breaker designation from the T-Max P series. With four usable cutting edges and a clamp-and-pin holding method, this insert is suited for high-performance turning applications where tool life and surface finish are critical priorities.
This insert is engineered primarily for turning stainless steel (ISO material code M) and is rated for secondary use on superalloys and titanium (ISO material code S). It fits turning operations in production machining environments, including CNC lathes and turning centers used in aerospace, medical device, chemical processing, and energy component manufacturing. The maximum depth of cut reaches 16.26 mm, making it capable of moderate to aggressive material removal passes on challenging workpiece materials. Designed for use in SANDVIK COROMANT T-Max P series turning toolholders that accept VNGG-style inserts with a 3/8-inch inscribed circle and clamp-and-pin holding. ISO code VNGG160401SGF1105 can be used for cross-reference to compatible toolholder systems.
Insert replacement and indexing should be performed by a qualified machinist or CNC tooling technician with the machine fully stopped and the spindle locked out per standard lockout/tagout procedures. Use the appropriate torque wrench and clamp hardware specified by the toolholder manufacturer when seating the insert. Inspect the insert pocket and seating surfaces for chips or debris before installing a fresh insert edge to prevent premature failure. Follow the cutting data recommendations from the toolholder manufacturer for feed rate, speed, and depth of cut when machining stainless steel or superalloy workpieces.
