The SANDVIK COROMANT 6851288 is a solid carbide turning insert carrying the ISO designation WNGG 08 04 02-SGF 1105. It features an 80-degree trigon (W) shape with a neutral hand orientation and a 0.20 mm (0.0078 inch) corner radius. The insert uses a TiAlN2 coating applied via a PVD process, which delivers wear resistance and edge stability during finish and semi-finish turning operations. With a 0.5000-inch (12.70 mm) inscribed circle and a maximum depth of cut of 7.48 mm, this insert is sized for moderate material removal on CNC lathes and turning centers. It is installed and serviced by machinists and CNC turning specialists in production and job-shop environments.
This insert belongs to the SANDVIK COROMANT T-Max P series, designed for external and internal turning applications. The SGF chip breaker geometry and sharp cutting edge style make it well suited for finishing passes where surface finish and dimensional accuracy are critical. It is typically applied in turning operations on ferrous and non-ferrous workpiece materials where a consistent, sharp edge and controlled chip formation are required. Each package contains one insert, with a minimum order quantity of 10 inserts.
Designed as an OEM-style replacement or direct application insert for CNC turning tool holders accepting WNGG-style inserts with a W insert shape code, N clearance code, G tolerance code, and 43.5 insert size designation within the T-Max P series.
Installation is performed by qualified machinists or CNC tooling technicians. Ensure the machine spindle is stopped and all axes are at a safe position before changing inserts. Seat the insert fully against the pocket locating surfaces and secure using the clamp and pin holding method specified for the tool holder; do not overtighten the clamping screw beyond the tool holder manufacturer's specification. Inspect the insert seat and chip groove for debris before installation to ensure proper seating and accurate edge positioning.
