The SANDVIK COROMANT 6851263 is a solid carbide turning insert in the T-Max P series, designed for precision external turning operations on stainless steel, superalloy, and titanium workpieces. It carries the ISO designation CNGG 12 04 01-SGF 1105 and features a TiAlN2 PVD coating that extends edge life under the high temperatures and work-hardening conditions common to these materials. The 80-degree diamond (C) insert shape provides a strong cutting geometry, while the SGF chip breaker and sharp cutting edge style are optimized for finishing and semi-finishing passes where edge precision and surface finish are critical. Four available cutting edges support cost-efficient tool management in production environments.
This insert is suited for turning centers and CNC lathes running stainless steel, nickel-based superalloys, and titanium alloys — workpiece material groups M and S per ISO classification. The neutral hand orientation makes it compatible with standard right-hand and left-hand toolholders that accept CNGG geometry. Typical applications include finish turning of aerospace components, medical parts, and fluid-handling equipment where tight tolerances and demanding materials are the norm. Licensed machinists and CNC operators in aerospace, medical device, and industrial manufacturing shops are the primary users of this insert.
Designed for use in toolholders accepting CNGG geometry inserts with a 1/2-inch inscribed circle. Compatible with primary workpiece material group M (stainless steel) and secondary groups S (superalloy and titanium) per ISO material classification. Part of the Sandvik Coromant T-Max P series.
Insert installation should be performed by a qualified machinist or CNC tooling technician with the machine in a full stop and lockout state before any toolholder work. Seat the insert firmly against the pocket walls and engage both the clamp and pin holding method to ensure positional stability under cutting loads. Inspect the pocket seating surface and clamp components for wear or debris before installation. Follow the toolholder manufacturer torque guidance for clamping screws — do not overtighten, as this can fracture the carbide substrate.
