The SANDVIK COROMANT 6770731 is a solid carbide indexable drill insert designed for use with compatible 880-series indexable drills. Carrying the 4344 manufacturer grade and a TiAlN2 PVD coating, it delivers thermal and wear resistance suited to demanding drilling operations in steel, cast iron, and similar workpiece materials. The square insert shape uses a GR chipbreaker geometry to control chip formation and evacuation at the cutting zone. With a 6.00 mm (0.2362 inch) inscribed circle and a 0.60 mm (0.0236 inch) corner radius, this insert is sized for precision hole-making applications where consistent dimensional results are required. Installation is handled by machining professionals in job shop, production, or maintenance environments.
This insert is intended for right-hand cutting direction and fits 880-style indexable drill bodies that accept the 030306 insert size. It is commonly used in CNC machining centers, drilling cells, and manual or CNC lathes configured for drilling operations. Typical applications include through-hole and blind-hole drilling in ferrous and non-ferrous materials where a PVD-coated solid carbide insert is specified. The GR chipbreaker suits general-purpose cutting conditions at moderate to high feed rates.
Designed as an OEM-style replacement insert for 880-series indexable drill bodies accepting the 030306 square insert size in right-hand cutting configuration.
Insert indexing and replacement should be performed by a qualified machinist or tooling technician with the machine fully de-energized and the spindle locked. Use the appropriate Torx or insert-clamping driver specified by the drill body manufacturer to achieve proper seating torque without over-driving the clamping screw. Inspect the insert pocket and seating surface for debris or damage before installing a new insert. Do not use damaged or improperly seated inserts, as this can result in insert fracture or loss of dimensional accuracy.
