The SANDVIK COROMANT 6633702 is a solid carbide indexable drill insert designed for use in indexable drilling operations requiring a precise, wear-resistant cutting edge. This insert carries the 880GM chipbreaker geometry and is manufactured to Grade 4334, a CVD-coated substrate combining TiCN, Al2O3, and TiN coating layers for thermal resistance and extended tool life. The insert features a square shape with a 5.10 mm (0.2008 inch) inscribed circle, a 0.0945 inch thickness, and a 0.4 mm corner radius. It is intended for installation by machinists and toolroom technicians in compatible SANDVIK COROMANT 880-series indexable drill bodies.
This insert is suited for metal-cutting applications in production machining environments, including general-purpose drilling of steel and other ferrous materials where a CVD multilayer coating provides the necessary hardness and oxidation resistance. The 880GM chipbreaker promotes controlled chip evacuation during deep-hole and through-hole drilling. The square insert profile and 2.2 mm hole diameter allow secure mechanical clamping in the drill body pocket. Typical applications include CNC machining centers and turning centers performing hole-making operations in high-volume or repetitive production cycles.
Designed as an OEM-style replacement insert for SANDVIK COROMANT 880-series indexable drill bodies accepting square inserts with an 880 insert style designation and 020204 insert size.
Installation should be performed by a qualified machinist or toolroom technician. Power down and lock out the machine spindle before indexing or replacing inserts. Use the manufacturer-specified torx or hex key to secure the clamping screw to the appropriate seating torque per the drill body documentation. Inspect the insert pocket and clamping screw for wear or damage before seating the new insert, and handle carbide inserts carefully to avoid chipping the cutting edges.
