The SANDVIK COROMANT 6532097 is a solid carbide grooving insert designed for external and internal grooving operations on CNC lathes and turning centers. It carries the ISO designation N123L2-0800-0005-GM 4325 and belongs to the CoroCut 1-2 series. The insert features a multi-layer MT-CVD coating of TiCN, Al2O3, and TiN, which provides wear resistance and thermal stability during continuous and interrupted cut grooving. With an 8 mm cutting width, a maximum depth of cut of 28.40 mm, and a neutral hand orientation, this insert suits a wide range of grooving applications where consistent chip control is required. It is installed and used by CNC machinists and toolroom technicians working in production and job-shop environments.
This insert is suited for grooving steel, stainless steel, and similar workpiece materials where grade 4325 carbide excels. The GM chip breaker geometry promotes reliable chip evacuation in medium-depth groove cutting. It fits CoroCut 1-2 toolholders that accept the L insert seat size. The neutral rake angle of 7 degrees and a 0.50 mm corner radius make it a practical choice for standard external grooving, parting-adjacent operations, and recessing tasks in both production and low-volume precision work.
Designed for use with SANDVIK COROMANT CoroCut 1-2 series toolholders accepting the L insert seat size. ISO code N123L2-0800-0005-GM 4325 identifies the exact holder-to-insert interface. Verify toolholder seat size and clamping style before installation.
Insert installation and replacement should be performed by a qualified CNC machinist or toolroom technician with the machine in a fully stopped and locked-out state. Use the correct Torx or hex key specified by the toolholder manufacturer when seating and torquing the clamping screw — do not over-tighten or substitute fasteners. Inspect the insert pocket and clamping components for wear or debris before seating a new insert. Handle carbide inserts with care to avoid chipping the cutting edge prior to use.
