The SANDVIK COROMANT 6428116 is a solid carbide milling insert in the R210 series, designed for face and shoulder milling operations. It carries a square shape with a 90-degree included angle and features a corner radius of 1.20 mm (0.0394 inches) for controlled edge engagement. The insert is CVD-coated with a three-layer stack of TiCN, Al2O3, and TiN, which delivers wear resistance and heat barrier performance suited to high-productivity cutting. With four usable cutting edges and a positive rake geometry, it supports efficient chip formation and reduced cutting forces. Licensed ANSI and ISO codes both read R210-14 05 12M-KM 3330. This insert is installed by CNC machinists and toolroom professionals working with indexable milling toolholders.
This insert is engineered for milling cast iron workpieces, including gray iron, nodular iron, and similar K-category materials. The KM chip breaker geometry is matched to the cutting demands of cast iron, managing the short, brittle chips that material produces. The R210 series cutter is a common platform in production shops running face mills, shoulder mills, and copy milling cutters. The maximum depth of cut is 2.00 mm (0.0787 inches). The insert is right-hand oriented and mounts via a screw-lock holding method into compatible R210 bodies.
Designed for use in R210-series indexable milling cutter bodies. Cutter series compatibility is listed as R210. Verify cutter body pocket geometry and insert seat dimensions against the R210-14 05 12M-KM specification before installation.
Installation is performed by a CNC machinist or toolroom technician using a calibrated torx or hex key to seat the screw-lock fastener to the cutter body specification. Power down and lock out the machine spindle before indexing or replacing inserts. Inspect the insert pocket and seating surfaces for chips or debris before placing the new insert, as contamination can cause improper seating and premature edge failure. Never force an insert into a pocket; if resistance is felt, inspect the pocket and fastener thread for damage.
