The SANDVIK COROMANT 6428058 is a solid carbide milling insert in grade 3330, designed for use in R390 series square shoulder milling cutters. It features a parallelogram insert shape with a positive rake angle of 17 degrees and a rounded corner cutting edge style. The insert carries a CVD-applied multilayer coating of TiCN, Al2O3, and TiN, which provides wear resistance and thermal stability during interrupted and continuous cuts. With a thickness of 0.1875 inches (4.76 mm) and an inscribed circle of 0.3780 inches (9.60 mm), it fits the standard R390-17 04 08M-KM toolholder interface. This insert is installed by machinists and CNC setup technicians working in production or job-shop environments.
This insert is intended for milling cast iron workpieces, as indicated by primary workpiece material code K. It is suited for square shoulder milling operations where consistent chip control and edge stability are required. The KM chip breaker geometry is matched to the insert size code 170408 and the R390 cutter series. The single-sided, right-hand configuration and screw-holding method make it a direct-fit insert for compatible R390 toolholders. Applications include face milling, shoulder milling, and slotting in both production and maintenance machining contexts on cast iron components.
Compatible with R390 series milling cutters. ANSI and ISO code: R390-17 04 08M-KM 3330. Insert size code 170408. Cutter series compatibility is R390 as specified by the manufacturer.
Insert installation should be performed by a qualified machinist or CNC technician with the spindle fully stopped and the machine placed in a locked-out, de-energized state before handling cutting inserts. Use the appropriate Torx or hex key per the toolholder manufacturer specification to seat the clamping screw. Inspect the insert pocket for debris, damage, or wear before seating the new insert. Follow the toolholder manufacturer torque guidance and confirm insert seating is flush before resuming operation.
