The SANDVIK COROMANT 6162298 is a CCMT-style indexable turning insert designed for precision external turning operations on CNC lathes and turning centers. Part of the CoroTurn 107 series, this insert features a multilayer MTCVD coating of TiCN, Al2O3, and TiN applied over a solid carbide substrate in manufacturer grade 3210. The 80-degree diamond insert shape provides a strong cutting geometry with a neutral hand orientation. The corner radius measures 0.0315 inches (1/32 inch) and the inscribed circle diameter is 0.375 inches (3/8 inch). With two cutting edges per insert, this geometry is well suited for finishing and semi-finishing passes in cast iron and similar K-category workpiece materials.
The 6162298 is used in screw-held turning toolholders that accept CCMT insert style with a 4.40 mm center hole. It is engineered for productive turning of cast iron components in both production shop and job shop environments. The KR chip breaker geometry controls chip evacuation during light to moderate depth cuts, with a maximum depth of cut reaching 8.87 mm (0.3492 inches). Licensed machinists and CNC operators working in aerospace, automotive, or general metalworking will find this insert appropriate for tight-tolerance finishing work where surface finish and dimensional consistency are priorities.
Designed for use in CCMT-compatible screw-held turning toolholders. ISO code CCMT09T308KR-3210 identifies this insert within standard ISO toolholder selection systems. Primary workpiece material classification is K (cast iron). Verify toolholder pocket geometry and insert seating requirements before installation.
Installation is performed by machinists or CNC tooling technicians following standard indexable insert changeout procedures. Ensure the machine spindle is stopped and the turret is fully indexed to a safe position before accessing the toolholder. Seat the insert fully against the pocket walls and tighten the clamping screw to the toolholder manufacturer's specified torque using the appropriate Torx or hex key. Inspect the insert seat and shim for wear or debris before indexing to the second cutting edge.
