The SANDVIK COROMANT 6107604 is a CNMG431XM GC30 grade indexable turning insert designed for external and internal turning operations on CNC lathes and turning centers. It features a CVD-applied dual-layer coating of TiAlN and AlCr2O3 over a solid carbide substrate, providing thermal resistance and edge wear protection during continuous and interrupted cuts. The insert measures 12.90 mm (0.5079 inches) in length with a 12.70 mm (0.5000-inch) inscribed circle and a 0.40 mm (1/64-inch) corner radius. The XM chip breaker geometry is engineered for moderate feed and depth-of-cut applications. Licensed machinists and CNC operators working in production turning environments are the primary installers.
This insert is suited for turning steel and stainless steel workpieces, corresponding to ISO material groups P and M. It fits into the T-Max P toolholder series, which uses clamp-and-pin holding. The insert carries an 80-degree diamond (C) shape with a neutral hand orientation, making it appropriate for straight turning, facing, and light profiling passes. Maximum depth of cut is rated at 12.50 mm (0.4921 inches). Typical applications include medium-duty production turning on components such as shafts, flanges, and stepped bores in job shop and high-volume manufacturing settings.
Designed for use in T-Max P series toolholders accepting CNMG-style inserts with a clamp-and-pin holding method. ISO code CNMG120404XM GC30. Insert size code 431. Compatible with steel and stainless steel workpiece materials per ISO P and M classifications.
Installation is performed by qualified CNC machinists or tooling technicians. Before indexing or replacing the insert, power down the machine spindle and confirm the turret is locked and all motion has stopped. Use the correct torque driver for the clamping screw per the toolholder manufacturer specifications and verify the insert seats fully against all pocket walls before resuming operation. Inspect the chip breaker and cutting edge condition at each index interval to maintain dimensional accuracy and surface finish requirements.
